I’ve decided to try and start up a “movement” to get more knowledge out into the community about the effect artificial additives have on our children. Instead of filling peoples’ heads with facts and figures I thought I’d just keep it really simple and set a challenge so parents can see for themselves the difference cutting artificial additives out can make to their children’s lives….and in return their own.
I think in this day and age, we are so bombarded with media images of how “glamorous” pre-packaged, highly processed foods can be and how simple they make our lives. We are also bombarded with essays of what certain things are doing to our health. I rarely see anyone inviting others to just give it a try and see for themselves, without a huge spiel on the scientific and medical facts and figures. So here it is, my No Nasties November!
The idea is this….you feed your kids, and/or yourself for that matter, food that has NO artificial colours, flavours or preservatives in for the entire month of November. Then at the end of the month, take notice of the changes in your kids’ behaviour and health and how you feel personally. Yes, it may seem difficult at first but with a bit of label reading and a little extra cooking, it will become second nature before you know it. It certainly doesn’t mean you can’t use packaged food, it just means you need to be more aware of what packaged food you are purchasing. My family has been additive free for a few years now and there are still pre-packaged foods in the pantry, fridge and freezer. However, we have taken it the extra step and investigated different food intolerances so in many cases, pre-packaged food just isn’t suitable but for the average family where food intolerances and allergies either don’t exist or are not recognised, then it’s easy….you just need to take the first step.
So go on, I dare you to give it a try. There are many resources on the internet and over the coming days and weeks, I’ll try to incorporate a few links on this page. Hey, my own blog is a great place to start 🙂
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to drop me a comment and I’ll answer it as soon as and as best I can. I’d really like this to become an annual challenge, so spread the word around and set the challenge for others 🙂
Now, if you’re serious about giving this a go, I would suggest you start by getting rid of all the nasties in your house. Yes, throw them all out…you’re never going to need them again as I’m convinced you’ll like the changes in your kids so much that you’ll remain additive free.
I have created a No Nasties November event page on Facebook and here’s the link, https://www.facebook.com/events/123284744489433/. Please get on board and pass it around. The more awareness we can get out there, the better off our children and society will be!
